Storyline (source: IGDB)

In the seedy port town of Rogueport, Princess Peach comes across a mysterious treasure map rumored to lead to a fabled fortune hidden behind the ancient Thousand-Year Door, sealed within ruins built atop a town that sank into the earth after a long-ago cataclysm. Peach sends the map to Mario and then vanishes, prompting him to travel to Rogueport in search of her. There he learns that the map can reveal the seven Crystal Stars needed to unlock the Thousand-Year Door, and that a sinister organization known as the X-Nauts is also hunting for its power. Gathering new companions along the way, Mario sets off across a series of strange and colorful lands to collect the Crystal Stars, rescue the princess, and uncover the secret that lies behind the legendary door.
